Hope's mirth

Hope's mirth

Lines and colors meet
A drumbeat
Fields of wheat
Shrouded fears
Silent tears
Hope's birth
Raiment and mirth
A stolen glance
Souls dance
By chance
Broken silence
Aslan's guidance
Lines and colors meet
A drumbeat
Fields of wheat

Autumn Embers

Autumn Embers

Simple and plain
Orange, yellow, browns
Leaves dance
On a country lane
Hope drowns
A stolen glance
Thunder and rain
Embers fall down
By chance
Fire's tearstain
Empty playground
A gothic romance
Or is it feigned?
Cast down
Caught in a trance
Words unexplained
'Send in the clown'
Push, pull, bodies advance
Melodies unchained
Deep down
A dream perchance
Stars ordained
Voices cry touchdown
Echo in the expanse
Together unashamed
Whispers all around
Walls collapse
Hand-in-hand unafraid
Beyond rejection's burial grounds
Writes new maps
As autumn colors parade
Flint sparks a winter's flame.

Letters

Letters

Darkness envelopes
Silent stars hung
Lanterns in a blue abyss
Shrouded hopes
Threads unstrung
Sweet first kiss
Traverses without ropes
Amazing grace sung
Otherworldly bliss
Steadfast oaks
Woodland canopy overhung
Tears' reminisce
Where poppies sprung
In this
Despair clung
A world amiss
Hearts wrung
Souls transfixed
Unspoken words on the tongue
Blood moon eclipse
An empty swing swung
Letters upon a new script

Ruins

Ruins

A nor'east's wisp
Threshold's kiss
Across a stage of dreams
Echoes in quiet streams
A thousand days
Cathedral ruins lay
Fog's mistral greys
Tomorrow's doorways

Summer days

JS Bin

Protective hands unseen
Plays out a scene
Hand upon heart
Set apart
Breathless moments
Cross's atonement
Hesitancy and joy
Grace employs
Brillant blue crashes
Beauty from ashes
Hope beckons
Railroad tracks reckoned
What was and nevermore
brother and sister cross Jordan's shore
misty shroud hides
the turn of the tide
darkness drowns
abandoned mills and shuttered brownstones of downtown
mist shrouds
sacred vows
Conversations
lay foundations

Where is the Rose?

Where is the Rose?

Reality shatters
Darkness and light scatter
Broken heart
Moments depart
A dreamer's eyes
Hope dies
Love waits
Fate
Faraway smiles
through trials
Yesterday lingers
in pictures
Left behind
to find
today grows old
past is cold
tomorrow unfolds
a melody plays
Friendship's gaze
an endless search
an empty church
Grace finds
gives sight to the blind
Unspoken words burn
Fires dance as souls yearn
Laughter rings
Thunder sings
Where is the rose?
Lines that poets compose
Blood stains on blue
I love you

The Sojourner

The Sojourner

Cross’s narrow road
Arms stretched out in love
To the sojourner
Beckons, calls, knocks
Friendship’s footprints
On the path’s inscription
Hand in hand
Love’s grasp tight
Storms splash in momentary might
Cross’s narrow road
The Rock
Justice, mercy, and grace
Beckons, calls, knocks
The sojourner
Heaven’s expanse stretched out before thee
The unknown yet to be
Cross’s narrow road
The sojourner
Mountains, valleys, deserts, wilderness
Hand in hand
With Eternity’s heartbeat

Phoenix Rises

Phoenix Rises

Hell-fire smokes
Flame gropes
Darkness cloaks
Blood soaks
As an earthly candle's glow flickers
With a broad stroke triggers
Tears rain fears
Blind seers
A shadow emerges
To requiem's dirge
As the bullet surges
Senseless violence
Innocence silenced
As the phoenix rises

Legacy

Legacy

A feather rests upon a sepulcher
The stone etched speaks a name
Ashen gray the sky cracks and thunders
Darkness envelopes
The tempest whirlwind surrounds
The soul's shattered shards lay
The feather dances to the piano key's chords
Dried roses
Withered
When our lives breathe is taken
What is the legacy that we leave?
Memories echo
Tea under jacaranda blossoms
Words spoken
The wind whispers and whisks the feather away

Kindred Spirits

Kindred Spirits

Stars hang in silence
The trees thunder in laughter
Like death's cloak darkness encloses
Memories dance in the shadows
Reality clothes the ambiguous road
I am alone
The night speaks of fairy tales and legends
I reach out for your presence
But find emptiness in your stead
The strum, the beat, the voice
Merciful eyes grasp the loneliness across the divide
Stars hang in silence
The cricket chirps in the void
Souls touch in the melody
The road is empty again
The stars hang in silence

And kissed my lips with tenderness
Love touched my heart
Jesus gave me the peace

June 6th

JS Bin

The wave breaks
Heart aches
Time stands
Threaded strands
Jordan divides
Turns the tide
What once was and will never be again
Remember when
Lost years
Heaven's tears
Drip on the mahogany wood
Memories of childhood
Whispered names Picture frames
Gravestones
Under the bridge
Blood-stained railroad tracks
Earth cracks
Unfinished chess game
a phone call left no one the same
A long ago day echoes
Ashen gray thunder cracks and bellows
Lightning sparks
Mortal hallmarks
Voices fade
Words prayed
Laughter silenced
Reverberate the sirens
Moonlight's breath
Another death
Goodbyes spoken
this gypsy heart holds the token

By Shannon McKemie, M.A.

Buried Hopes

Buried Hopes

The moonlight casts shadows as the stars wane
Van Gogh's blue swells as tears stain
Broken silence as the heart aches
Veiled crimson quakes
Tin-type memories leave one awake
Lantern lights shimmer upon the lake
Words spoken
Worlds broken
Abandoned token
A voice haunts
Ravaged and gaunt
In silent agony
I whisper to the stars with their pageantry
Beloved, my love
I am here
Before the graveyard of buried hopes

Look upon the night

Look upon the night

Stars dance in friendship tonight
Yet goodbyes we write
Look upon the night
Shadows and light
Gentle breeze shatters
Friends scatter
New beginnings arise
Memories paint the skies
Look upon the night
Distance separates
Kindred spirits fates
Yet goodbyes we write
Stars dance in friendship tonight
Look upon the night

The Lamplight

The Lamplight

The raven crows
Under twilight's glow
Silent screams pierce night's cloak
Muted tears at midnight's stroke
Requiem's vale
in shadow's veil
where engraved stones wail
a beautifully lily of the lamplight
the butterfly takes flight
where angels tread
reunited family threads
words said
as pastor breaks bread
you and your daughter's silhouette dance
by perchance
Alone in the dark
the raven crows
under twilight's glow

The Call

The sun bids adieu
Stars breakthrough
Dusk's majesty
Moment's agony
Bubble bursts
Soul thirsts
Road waits
Grace captivates
Holy feet tread
Christ broke bread
Do this in the remembrance of me, Christ said.
Only on bended knee
do my blinded eyes see
Sweet peace touches
where sin crushes
holy hands grasp above
for my Beloved
Lamb's blood cleanses
destroys my defenses
comfort in His plan
unseen beyond my empty hands
only on bended knee
do my blinded eyes see
Words spoken
Spirit broken
Living water springs
Lifted on eagle's wings
the call

Twilight's Crown

Luthlorien's sacred ground
Tree's twilight crowned
Estel and Evenstar betroth
Hope clothed
Sword sheathed
Tolkien spoken:
...A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be the blade that was Broken,
The crownless again shall be King

Eldar and mortal wedding
After darkness vanquished
Love that cherished
Beyond the breaking
A winter dusting
Amidst the twilight's crown
A shadow fades.

Ashen gray envelopes

Scripted deed

Caged mockingbird sings
Water trickles from springs

Raven's call

Raven's call

Morning fog shrouds the raven's call
As gunshots pierce the mall
Ramah's soil bleeds red as Rachel weeps
In darkness nations sleep
As Humanity washes ashore(#KiyiyaVuranInsanlik)
'Merica and Fortress Europa abhors
Children of men scorn
Lives shattered and torn
Salat al-Janazah, a wooden box, and a father mourns
Drops trickle, a stream flows
An endless walk as bodies decompose
Hope abandoned
Refugees branded
Thirsty
Dirty
Hungry
Stones substitute bread
Waves splash upon the dead
Hope drowns
The raven's call are the only sounds

The rhythm, beat, and sounds.

If you choose my art
Why do you maim and mute
Erase and replace
Red-stained

Dear Brother

Dear Brother

Life's tapestry fills with many colors
Water trickles
Memories ripple
Majesty's pillars stand
Friendship's cords are one strand
Rand's journey
Min's vision blurry
Castle-rock mountaintops
San Francisco raindrops
Lamentations and sorrow
Father's hand on the sparrow
Acoustic guitar strums
Heart beats to a Jim bay drum
Songs of a New Jerusalem
Caged bird sings
Of deserts with new springs
On eagle's wings
Fiery embers burn
Night of your return
Ocean crashes
Hope rises from ashes
June days
Friends always

Memory's Fragrance

Memory's Fragrance

Daybreak cracks the stillness suspended
As an interlude wakens the choir's ballads transcended
Memory's fragrance from faded days
Of hallowed halls and caged lockers' empty shadows replay
Classrooms and concrete numbers
Yearbooks, K.I.T., and the long summers
Memory's fragrance from faded days
Silhouettes like a candle's flame ablaze
Etched names upon ebony
Time's brevity
Memory's fragrance from faded days
Black and gold tasseled visions
That stands upon a threshold of ambitions
A chapter's nightfall
The Class of Nineteen ninety-four's last call
Black and gold tasseled visions
As the first light shatters
One by one--our class scatters

Margie's Voice

Margie's Voice

A butterfly spreads its wings
A baby coos and a mother sings
Empty rooms stand bare
A text, tears, and the Lord's Prayer
House of cards
Shadows guard
A will and future taken
Dreams forsaken
Strength's grace
A smile and laughter's embrace
Brown eyes sparkle
Names etched in marble
Silence remains
Its echo stains
Your voice whispers
As the crisp zephyr blisters
Winter's snow quakes
As the stargazer lily wakes.

The Gentleman and His Belle

The Gentleman and His Belle

Texas wildflowers and wheat dried in their glorious brillance
Paint a bouquet with deep red, lavendar, and an earthly yellow
The white ivory piano keys are brushed
As the strings of one's life are touched
As hands are held to heart and two become one
Laughter and tears are shared and glisten like dewdrops upon the rose
Jesus, cowboy boots, and a wedding dress
Engraved hearts entwined lives
As hands are held to heart and two become one
Texas wildflowers and wheat dried in their glorious brillance
Paint a bouquet with deep red, lavendar, and an earthly yellow
The road not taken lays just beyond the doors
Where husband and wife will walk together
Never to part
Christ's three-fold cord not be put asunder by man
The two-step around the floor and a twirl under the lights
The candle flickers and lights shimmer
Cotton-eyed Joe plays and the jitter-bug roars
Artistry and dance meet
A symphony stirs within
Jesus, cowboy boots, and a wedding dress
Engraved hearts entwined lives
As hands are held to heart and two become one
The gentleman and his Georgia Belle.

An Angel's mistral

An Angel's mistral

A sword sheathed
Words breathless breathed
Smooth stones lay grieved
Ocean crashes
Fire and ashes
Lightning flashes
Stars and sand
Life's threads in His hand
Labels brand
The mockingbird sings
Of paupers and kings
Of yesterday's flings
And tomorrow's springs
Dreams haunt
Shadowy figures taunt
Willowy, pale, and gaunt
The raven caws minstrels
Darkness envelops pistols
Red rose sprinkles
Distant crowds
Fog shrouds
A typewriter's fonts
Blurring letters between confidants
Disappearing sand
Aslan's woodland
Whispers from gold bands
Without their joined hands
A stranger in these lands
The mistral whistles
A bagpipe's lament
Of an angel's thistle

Blue Lines

Blue Lines

Peaceful protests cry
Against society's blind-eye
Gunfire rocks downtown
Blood soaks the grounds
News quakes officers down
Sorrow drowns
Blue crowns
City lights of my hometown
An officer's last radio call sounds
Children's tears shake playgrounds
Injustice bleeds
Hollow creeds
Mercies' mustard seeds
Tears, hugs, and shared prayer upon knees
For the world to see
We stand together free

Menagerie Mementos

Menagerie Mementos

Useless guards
House of cards
Shattered shards
A knife's edge
An unholy pledge
Darkness cloaks
A pyre smokes
Whispers townsfolk
Words broken
Lost token
Puzzle pieces
Fragmented fleeces
Society's rejection
Mirror reflection
Ugly imperfection
Mementos of the moors
Thunder overtures
The lady weeps
A pale moon keeps
Sorrow reaps
A dream shades
The menagerie fades

Shadow and Silence

Shadows and Silence

Shadows and silence
Fear and division shouted by tyrants
Bang, bang, and sirens
Shadows and silence
The Colt AR-15 fires
Light funeral pyres
Smoke and embers
We remember
Shadows and silence
Do you see me?
To you, I am
A number
A label

Do you see me?
I am
A lover
A sister
A brother
A cousin
A son
A daughter
A colleague
A stranger

Do you see me?
Shadows and silence
Or is my name on a list that will be misplaced
Without a trace
The outsider knocks on your door
Do you hear?
The pain and the tears
Shadows and silence

Blinded Eyes Behold

Blinded Eyes Behold

The trumpet calls
Spirits dance before the throne
Blinded eyes behold
A flame is set free
As I silently cry
my Adonai, on my El Shaddei's knee
Dancing in a new dawn
A melody that one is three
Chains broken
A voice set free
with empty hands
I pour the fragrance of who
You made me to be at your feet
The trumpet calls
Blinded eyes behold
My Jesus, my Adonai, my El Shaddei

Africa

Africa

Twelve years ago
A rooster crows
The sunrise is clothed
Rooibos tea and biscuits
Murder statistics
Bread pudding and Mielipap
Zweletemba Township and the poverty gap
Bare feet and open hands
Children welcome across the lands
Blood stained clay weeps
Where colonization and apartheid sleeps
Afrikaans defiantly murmurs where it once was banned
Alone the missionary stands.

Childhood Shadows

Childhood Shadows

Tears fall
Hearts break
Glass shatters
Friends scatter
Playground chatter
Childhood dreams
Trickle quiet streams
Twilight's shadows
Haunt open meadows
God is nigh
The bugle sings
A warrior gains angel wings
Peace springs
A brother's embrace
Across the veil of grace
A gold star hangs
A drumbeat bangs
Flag draped
Soul's quake
Night calls

Winter's hallow

Winter's hallow

Standing before stones
The spirit groans
For unspoken words
Songs from bluebirds
Winter's barren hallow
Blossoms into spring's fairy swallow
Taps plays and twenty-one guns fire
Memories of the funeral pyre
Flanders' field bleed red
For all the uneaten bread
One of Minnesota's daughters
A globe trotter
Kindness gowned
Hope crowned
Ravens crow
As wild dandelions grow
Under heaven's snow
Cowboy boots and hardwood floors
Hands held across the shores
Until we meet again on distant moors.

Lady on the moor

Lady on the moor

Ordinary and plain
  I am a stranger
An Eyre and a Jane
  A lowly ranger
A wanderer of the moors
   Deserts and detours
Fog and mist
  Shadows reminisce
Of youth's kiss
  Pure bliss
Bury hope and dream's stain
  Thrashed grain
Golden harvest hidden pain
Engraved stones and steeple rise from the prairie
Tears tarry
  Homely and alone
A scarlet letter sewn
  On my own
Eponine's hymn and curse
  Silently plays my verse
Weary and worn
  The lady on the moor

Autumn Leaves

Leaves stain
October rain
Fog shrouds the storm
Rose's thorn
Grief is borne
Mementos and memories
Polaroid's and lucky pennies
Smile and kindness whispers
The ache blisters
Burnt orange, golden ticket yellow and green leaves
An echo of summer's sheaves
Hope cleaves
Shadows murmur a heavenly scene
A sunflower angel walks unseen
Empty hallways and laughter lay bare
Tears stain
Until we meet again.

All Hallow's Eve

All Hallow's Eve

Darkness claws
Shadows crawl
'Pour, obscure, plain' and small
Voices whisper:
  homely
Zephyr blisters:
  lonely
Wormwood and bitters
Starry night glitters
Master puppeteer pulls the strings
Salty wetness clings
Bluebird sings
Broken dreams
Walk hand-in-hand
By life's streams
Is it a day-dream?
As
The raven caws:
  Scars and flaws
Autumn ashes
Flint sparks matches
Births new passions
Orange, yellow, green leaves
Under the moon of All Hallow's Eve

Mountains call

Mountains call

Flint sparks
Mountains call
Crowds roar at ballpark
Majestic and tall
Trees barren and stark
Red and white stitched baseball
Handwritten letter and postmark
Leather stitched football
Sings a skylark
She tightens her shawl
In the dark
Exits the dance hall
Scarlet tears mark
Shame's prison wall
Hope embarks
Against the thunderous squall
As narrative arcs
Within society's protocol
Hand-in-hand in the parks
Souls entrall
Entwined names benchmarks
Before bodies fall
Flame sparks
Mountains call.

Empty Hands

Empty hands

The tempest rages
I pour out my heart
In a torrent of tears
As an autumn orchard the sunset is painted
The turning of the tide has begun
I lift my empty hands up to thee
As the surf thunders upon the sand
Dawn breaches night's veil
Amidst the dew-kissed, fog-laced path beckons
A rose blossoms
The sojourner stumbles and falls
The Shepherd calls
To an unknown land
I sit upon your Rock
And the waves break over me.

Brother's Keeper

Brother's keeper

Slavery chains
Leaving bloodstains
Cotton fields, white as snow
Ground drips red against the plough
Liberty abstains
As the Master and servant remains
Plantations still stand
Dixie plays by the band
As Jim Crow shackles
The white man cackles
A rope and a tree
The innocent plea
As lynching reigns
Segragation rules maintain
The chains
Debt peonage blots
The penal code fills slots
A 'Hanging Tree' and gunshots
Red-lined urban decay
Another shot, another name slay
Hope betrays
The children at play
A crow caws
A spectacle draws
Mourning meemaws
The bell tolls
Embers burn from yesterday's coals
Lost generation of souls
A wasteland
The scarred hand

Dream's drumbeats

- Dream's drumbeats

Shadows and light
Veil of night
Dream's drumbeats
Souls meet
Darkness awakened
Memories taken
Sojourner treads new roads
Matrix of codes
Candle flickers
Unknown figure
Threshold of unfulfilled dreams shimmer
A voice beckons
From the silence of the heavens
Words echo
Faithful sparrow
Night's shroud
Field plowed
Drumbeat inscribes moments
To be someone's chosen
A smile awakens the soul
From life's toll
Kindred spirits dance
Amidst gravestones and the expanse
To the whimsical winds whistles

Requiem

Requiem

A silent requiem thunders
A language of numbers

Two souls dance
As one

in a trance

Without words
Chess boards

The Master Puppeteer
O hear

Pulls strings
Peasants and kings

Images refract
Colors abstract

Between

Glass, steel, and stones
Blood atones

Upside down
Martyrs and crowns

Between

Snow floats
Like musical notes

Caught in suspense
Past pretense

Worlds collide
Tears dried

Symphony's shadows
Hidden meadows

Rain pitter-patters
Wretched spirit hung in tatters

Japanese lanterns light
Geisha's mysterious sight

Between

Lines, letters, and words
Muted mockingbird

Tolls

Ocean crashes, thunder cracks
A soul shatters

Like a broken menagerie.

Barren Winter

A thousand glass shards
Falls house of cards

Fog shrouds
Alone in crowds

Lanterns in sky
Broken, I cry
Goodbye firefly

Darkness deepens
Turn seasons

End of rope
Advent's hope

Candle flickers
Christmas lights shimmer

Words linger
Wind whispers

Butterfly jitters
By the river

Stands a figure

Chess Pieces

Chess Pieces Summertime beckoned
Memorial day chastened
Shadows on the walls
An east wind rode the squall
Chess pieces fall.

A phone call

Lives splittered
Time blurred
A train's horn
Announces a siren's mourn
A child, a brother, a fiance, a son, a cousin

pass

Childhood innocence shattered like broken glass
Blood splattered by urban railroad tracks
Darkness, abyss envelopes like black lilacs
Outstretched hands reach for the void
As one weeps over a Polaroid

Emptiness's ache

Soul's earthquake
Shame blushes
Hidden crushes
Muted tears
Twenty-three years
Chess pieces fall
Within life's mosaic.

Empty Stage

Empty Stage

Stage lights and curtain calls
Echoes in the shadows of the theatre walls
Words upon a page
Denny breakfasts roused from the music of the night
That beguiles the stage fright to take flight at first light
Our Town, El Dorado theatre corners where camaraderie of friends' bid goodnight
Tin-typed memories lay the scene where:
Our Music Man beckons to believe
Our Man who came to dinner, do we stay or do we go?
Our Working, to reach for the Broadway lights
Our Diviners, to gather at the river of our dreams
Our Oliver, to stand by one another
Our Gypsy, to celebrate that everything is coming up Roses
Our Diary, to still believe in the good
Stage lights and curtain calls
Echoes in the shadows of the theatre walls
Scenes from a time machine
Where spirits of the forgotten past wander unseen
A darkened empty stage waits
And beckons to fate
For the actor to take his place
Stage lights and curtain calls
Echoes in the shadows of the theatre walls

The Christmas gift

The Christmas gift

Lone figure, River whispers
Christmas lights flicker, Eyes shimmer
Hope quivers, Irish whiskey sipper
Saint and sinner, in the mirror
Doubts appear, two draw near
Mistletoe cheer, He appears
Wipes her tears, Calms her fears
From jeers, Of peers
Entwined spheres, Hands held
Questions disappear, Lives meld
Words endear, Souls compelled
To hear, Hope dwelled
Unspoken prayer, Faith marvelled
To declare, music swelled
I care, darkness dispelled
Without fanfare, fire quelled
To share, eyes beheld
'to love and be loved in return'

Thornfield

Plain and ordinary
In the shadows stands
Rain patters and dreams bury
Tears fall in the shadowlands
Names in a cemetery
Time's sands
My cross, I carry
Drumbeats across my homeland
Windswept moors and prairie
Alone, I stand
Quiet glances last momentary
Stolen smiles understand
Souls dance
Bodies advance
Kindness's balm touches
Removes cruelty's thorny clutches
A dream fades
Ghostly charades
Narrative unravels
Alone, she travels
Thornfield Hall stands
Ruins upon the lands
Wind whispers
Lone figure
Mr. Rochester sees

Silent Melody

- Silent Melody

Silence imprisons
A friend listens
Bound by society's dictates
Words captivate
Unmasked dreams
Together by quiet streams
Smile's sanctuary
Time tarries
Threefold cord binds
Grace finds
Hand-in-hand
Faces the wasteland
Shattered shards
Life's postcards
Betrayal's stains
Broken chains
Hope's melody
Sung endlessly
A masquerade hides
He stands beside
Uncloaked visions
Sings the musicians
Threefold cord binds
Grace finds
Hand-in-hand

His gaze

His gaze

She lingers
Castaway cinders
She remembers
Fiery embers
His presence fills
And conversation thrills
Frozen moments
Written by poets
Eternity waits
Momentary fates
Lost thoughts
Stomach in knots
Held in his gaze
Spirit ablaze
Memory snapshots
Ink blots
Dreams paint
Friendship acquaints
Darkness doubts
Fear shouts
Anthem ceases
Applause thunders and increases
Empty stage
Hides the phantom's rage
He crumples in a heap
Voiceless shadow weeps
Loves breathless rhythm beats
Before a justice of the peace
She lingers
Castaway cinders
Lost thoughts
Stomach in knots
Held in his gaze
Spirit ablaze

Silent Stone

Silent Stone

Whitewashed monuments
Senseless arguments

Babylonian towers
Steel and stone devours
Glass, mortar, brick counters

Silent epitaphs
Old photographs

Of a forgotten past
Failed to grasp

Empty pews
Artist's muse

An outstretched hand
Across the wasteland

Whitewashed monuments
Echoes of opulence

Humanity's noise
Vanity destorys

Abandoned Storefronts

Abandoned Storefronts Stardust shimmers
Candle flickers

Dreams sprinkle
Eyes twinkle

Red sunrise paints
Society's constraints

Ocean crashes
Soul's ashes

Bodies push, pull, and glide
Cowboy boots slide
Spirits collide

Big band plays
Lost in your gaze

Time moves and swings
Expectation threaded on tapestry's strings

Turn of the century sepia shades
Names fade

Memories abyss
Time's precipice

Shadows haunt
Abandoned storefronts

Unrequited love's tears
Twilight's silent jeers

Soul's brush

Soul's brush

Single touch
Brief hush

Unseen minuet
Quiet debt

Kindred spirits suspended
Something splendid

Souls brush
Single touch

A smile
Across the aisle

Darkness fades
Distant gray barricades

Time hangs
Friendship's birth pangs

Abstract frontiers
Another year

Souls brush
Single touch

The Bridal's veil

The Bridal's veil

Fog's shroud
Before the alter vowed

A bridal's veil
Promises in the vale

Airbrushed reds,yellows,and greens
Painted screens

Phantoms whirl
Stardust off a schoolgirl

Mystery cloaks
Touch evokes

Prism reflects
Grace corrects

Fog's shroud
Before the alter vowed
A bridal's veil

The Masquerade

The Masquerade

Reflections bend
Hope suspend

Friendship collides
Crosses a divide

Whitewashed illusions
Create confusion

An ancient beat plays
Two-stepping through a maze

A wordless ballet
The masquerade moves and sways

Dagger hung
Waits to be sprung

Requiem's dirge
Lines merge

Unveiled beauty stains
Doubt chains

Mirrors obscure
Pull and push

Bodies sway
Court's prey

Masks unveiled

River's whispers

River's whispers

The wind giggles
Water ripples

Drumbeats echo
Secrets from the meadow

Etched wood
Tin-types of childhood

Majesty's pillars
Whispers the river

The Father's hand
Upheld in his master plan

Carvings mark
Heaven's lanterns that light the dark

Silent repose
A single rose

Rocks cry
To the heavens high

Weary worn brown leaves
Autumn sheaves

Silence speaks
Faith leaps

Memories and moments
Words of a poet

Breath taken
Hope shaken

Crisp zephyr cleaves
Soul grieves

Eyre's Song

Eyre's Song

Eyre's shattered shards
a house of cards

Teardrop fragments hung
Words slip off the tongue

Darkness drowns
Silent playgrounds

An endless abyss
Haunts one kiss

Caged mockingbird sings
Requiem's symphony before kings

Hidden faces in a masquerade
Vulture eyes like sharpened blades

Gleefully wait for Eyre's fall
Thunders the squall

Invisible scars
Written in the stars

Words wound
Unseen battleground

Hollows haunt
Ghostly lament taunts

Jimbay drumbeats play
Eyre's mournful ballet.

Dream's drumbeat

Dream's drumbeats

Shadows and light
Veil of night

Dream’s drumbeats
Souls meet

Darkness awakened
Memories taken

Sojourner treads new roads
Matrix of codes

Candle flickers
Unknown figure
Threshold of unfulfilled dreams shimmer

A voice beckons
From the silence of the heavens

Words echo
Faithful sparrow

Night’s shroud
Field plowed

Drumbeat inscribes moments
To be someone’s chosen

A smile awakens the soul
From life’s toll

Kindred spirits dance
Amidst gravestones and the expanse

To the whimsical winds whistles

The Potter's vase (v.2)

The Potter's vase

The Potter's vase

Shattered shards
Society's discards

A Potter's vase
Glass and stone
Pearls, diamonds, and gold

Words scattered
Spirit battered

Scarlet letters
Sinful debtors

Bloody red
Hollow and dead
Lies spread

A Potter's vase
Glass and stone
Pearls, diamonds, and gold

Hope's beauty
Breaks through cruelty

A linguist spells
A lament swells

Broken shells
Shattered shards
Society's discards.

My Wild heart

Oh my wild heart
Gypsy winds blow
Carry us apart
Strums a banjo
Travelers' apart
Ravens crow
Faith imparts
Hope bestows
Navigation across the charts
Words compose
Colors paint the arts
Cowboys and beaus
Oh my wild heart
Gypsy winds blow
By Shannon McKemie, M.A.

Jordan's tears

Water brushes
Fear cluthes
Rocks roar
Crashes to shore
Wilderness lies at back door
Canaan before
Promised Land evermore
A painted illusion stands
Grains of sand
Shattered pieces
Pain fleeces
Bloody betrayal scars
Unwritten memoirs
Darkness strikes melodic chords
Tensions push and pull like cords
Hesitant steps back and forth
A new beginning birthed
Two-steps together hand-in-hand
A walk in the woodland
Grace washes
Crimson ashes
Aslan roars
Tears no more

At first glance

At first glance
By chance
An artist's dreams
Quiet streams
Hidden past
Social caste
Mondrian’s colors
Unseen lovers
Eiffel tower fades
Graffiti from Nazi brigades
Charcoal sketches paint
 Love without restraint
At first glance
By chance
War-torn
Unspoken deaths mourn
Hope born
Blue, gold, red
Abstract thread
Lines misread
Eiffel tower shades
Victory parades
Lamplight flickers
Stage whispers
River glitters
One hour
Blooms a wildflower
Bench sits
Beyond the glitz
A refugee fears
What the American hears
Bubble breaks
Hearts quake
Tower stands
Lovers hand-in-hand
At first glance
By chance
An artist’s dreams.

Spoken Silence

The winds whisper
Ripples the river
The trees giggle
Echoes a fiddle
Melody plays
Momentary gaze
Zephyr wind whistles
Rose and thistles
Drumbeat of my heart
Thunders as we depart
Emmaus road lays behind
Three cords twined
Hay stacks stoically stand
Bethels on the farmland
East wind whispers
Past names and figures
Teardrops caress and memories blister
Shadows dance a morose ballet
Words betray
Orchestra notes crack like mirrors
A thousand diamonds flicker in rivers
On Terabithia’s bridge
Forest murmurs a ghostly pitch
Spoken silence speaks
Stories written under mountain peaks
Time’s carved lines upon stone
Strength sown
Softly moans
The woodland writes
Under northern lights
The minstrel marks
Codes on the bark
Read by storytellers and skylarks
The winds whisper.

Somewhere Above

The eagle flies
In endless skies
Born free
‘Nearer my God to thee’[1]
Over the heavens and the sea
The eagle flies
In endless skies
Angel’s flight
Carried you into heaven’s light
Somewhere above
The eagle flies
In endless skies
I sojourn below
In morning’s afterglow
Sands of time fall
Echoes of a phone call
The eagle flies
In endless skies
Stardust sparkles
Name written on marble
Somewhere above
The eagle flies
In endless skies
Lanterns lit
Friendship knit
Dreams burn
Heart yearns
Unspoken conversations
Across time’s vibrations
A desert river flows
Where lays a single red rose
Hope rises
The eagle flies
In endless skies

One's heart

One's heart

Dreams dance
Roses bloom in the expanse

Time remains
Memory stains

Twilight's tears
Forgotten fears

Sweet smiles
An anchor through trials

Wind whispers
Sun blisters

Silent tears
Masks and mirrors

Love's goodbye
Too soon arrives

Seasons change
Life rearranged

Candle burns
the melody adjourns

One holds space
Loves with grace

Lost am I
By and by

Shadows dance
Glimpses of heaven in the expanse

Pieces of me
Do you see?

In your eyes
One finds comfort and security

to be found
spellbound

words written
Love hidden

in one's heart
the spirit departs

Thunder cracks
Dreams collapse

In another land
